The more you know, the more you know, you know less than all there is to know.
Cloud report: Lovely white line Cirrus to thick Cirrus spissatus clouds above drifting slowly from the W at 8Km. Some light grey flat Stratocumulus stratiformis clouds at 1.3Km. No rain from these but we can expect onshore flow to blow in thick Cumulus that might deliver a tiny bit of rain midday.
Posted 23rd Apr 2026r/brisbane
Cloud report: Cloudy on and off today. Currently scattered thick Cirrus spissatus clouds very high at 9.3Km darken the sky. A few Cumulus lower at 1.6Km too. No rain from these. Early this morning there was a lovely array Cirrus uncinus clouds though showing high crosswinds.

Cloud report, sunset edition: Some nice Stratocumulus duplicatus (2 layers, 1.2Km & 1.4Km) gave a canvas to paint Rayleigh scattered orange sunset light this evening. The gusty winds probably supplying the dust to bend the higher frequency colours. This morning had pleasing Cirrus & Cirrocumulus too
Posted 26th Feb 2026r/brisbane
Cloud report: Midday there's lots of sky covering Stratocumulus banks at 1.3Km coming in from the sea but above is some glorious Cirrus threads and patterned Cirrocumulus around 7Km. There a few chunky Cumulus clouds about too so there's a tiny chance of a little spot rain here or there. Enjoy.

Cloud report: Clear skies now, mid-afternoon, & likely to remain that way but there have been some striking scenes. 8:30am high Cirrocumulus undulatus & low Cumulus humilis. 10am had jellyfish like Cirrus clouds with Virga (rain that refreezes on the way down). Beautiful but no rain today.

Cloud report: Midday edition. The skies are dynamic today; {First 4 pictures} Now with some whispy lines of Cirrus (very high up @ 10Km), a layer of whispy Altostratus (mid level, ~4km) & thick grey Cumulus. The BOM is not predicting rain today but I think a sunshower is possible. Rain likely tmw.
Posted 11th Dec 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report: Afternoon edition. Extensive Cirrus spissatus clouds high above at 8.6Km up. Delivered by the 185Km/hr jetstream arc ending just west of us. More coming so it might make for a good sunset. No rain until Sunday evening though.

It's always a surprise to me to hear Brisbane mentioned in a list by a non-Australian YouTuber. In this case WavyWebSurf's post today and the sad case of the planking challenge's first death, Acton Beale, Kangaroo Point, 2011. 21min mark.

Cloud report: Is an Alto cloud party above us this morn. Some OG Altostratus (solid banks) & Altocumulus (little pillows) w/ Altocumulus undulatus clouds (lines) all on 2 layers (Altocumulus duplicatus) at 5km & 5.3Km up. With only 26Km/hr winds & no jetstream above to rush them off they can just be

Cloud report: Great skies this morn w/ a lot of mid to high moisture triggering lots of clouds types. Cirrus, Cirrus fibratus to Cirrocumulus in 2 layers at 8-10Km up, pushed by a trough & 185Km/hr jetstream S of us. The high cloud ice is giving a 22° Sun halo. A few Altocumulus at 3.25Km to be seen
Posted 18th Oct 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report: Interesting skies this morning. Small Cumulus fractus to thick Cumulus mediocris clouds 100-300m up & patterned Stratocumulus 800m. All coming from the N on ~40Km/hr winds. Altocumulus stratoformis clouds w/ sunbeams & sun Corona 8Km on W winds. And lots of smoke haze tinting the air!
Posted 8th Oct 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report: A rememberance of clouds past. Very high 10km Cirrostratus clouds above are a thin sheet of ice crystals with only a dash of rippled Cirrus. Airliners flying in & out are leaving contrails from wing tip turbulance ice nucleation. Should be a clear weekend w/ maybe a repeated fine dusk.
Posted 26th Sep 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report: Mid-morning it is many Cumulis humilis clouds (low, small & fluffy) at 330m drifting on a 7km/hr breeze from the WNW. Earlier was a nice coverage of Stratocumulus stratoformis perlucidus (low, flat and showing sky through gaps). Shows moist air with updrafts but rain unlikely for days.

Cloud report: An interesting mix of clouds out early today, all levels, all chunky cumulus types, all barely moving. Pictured Cirrocumulus, Altocumulus & Stratocumulus. I saw Cumulus congestus out to sea while driving. BOM predicts light rain this morn, I think an aftn storm again today is likely.
Posted 14th Aug 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report, lunchtime edition: Is a pleasant mix of high Cirrus at 10Km & plump Cumulus mediocris clouds at 1.5Km. Top deck coming from the west, low from the east, both at ground apparent high speeds so there there is always something to see. If you can, go out, touch grass & look up.
Posted 7th Aug 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report, sunset edition: Nice feathered Cirrus and patterned Cirrocumulus undulatus clouds at a high 9.5Km on a westerly wind can be seen. The sunset adding a pink tint thanks Rayleigh scattering. Also a bright waxing gibbous moon. No rain for a day at least so back to cool mornings. Enjoy.
Posted 6th Aug 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report: Not much cloud this morning but what is present is intriguing. High flat Cirrocumulus stratiformis (8.7Km), mid-height wavy patches of Altocumulus undulatus (5Km) & ragged low Stratocumulus (1.1Km) all coming on brisk westerly winds. 140Km/hr for the Altocumulus clouds.
Posted 31st Jul 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report, Sunset edition: Cirrocumulus (10Km) and Stratocumulus perlucidus (115m) in pleasing patterns and layers during sunset today. No great meaning to this just moisture in the air at 2 levels with mild updrafts. The BOM predicts clouds tomorrow and rain over the weekend.

Cloud report: A smorgasbord of high cirrus clouds throughout today coming from an atmospheric instability over the Indian ocean & the jet stream splintering over us (at 14Km & 11.3Km) causing rolling eddy currents. Often very pretty, please enjoy.

Cloud report, lazy Sunday edition: Glorious skies with Cirrus spissatus clouds coming from the west. Not much to say as the aerodromes aren't even noticing them. Will be approx 9Km up. No rain for days, enjoy! Bonus pictures from me riding shotgun on this morning's drive.
Posted 25th May 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report: Early morning there was well defined Stratocumulus floccus but now more of the same at 1Km up with extensive Altocumulus stratiformis at 3.2Km with some Ac undulatus. Little chance of rain today but some chance of a little tomorrow & Thurs. Bonus pic of sunset on the river yesterday.

Cloud report: Yesterdays high level cold front passing has left us with a high moisture atmosphere ready to condensate. Look up & enjoy the Cirrus spissatus twisted threads & Cirrus aviaticus (contrails) at 11+km up. No rain from this high atmosphere event but there's a chance for a little rain Fri.

Cloud report: Nicely patterned Cirrocumulus clouds at 10.6Km up on fast (towards the) NNE winds & fluffy little Cumulus humilis at 1.3Km on leisurely 16Km/hr EES winds. None are rain bearing so no rain until maybe Monday. Also look out for the lovely wanning gibbous moon. Great weather to enjoy!

Cloud report, knock-off work edition: Some lovely sunset Cirrus clouds to be seen at 10km up. Complimented by lower Stratocumulus bands at 1.3Km. Look now at sunset or even after and they'll likely be lovely. No rain for the next few days.
Posted 16th Apr 2025r/brisbane
Cloud report: Nice mix of clouds this morning. Lots of threaded Cirrus at the sub-tropics' top deck of 10km up, probably as the jetstream is unusually nowhere near us. Some small Stratocumulus bands over land at 1Km. BOM says 40% chance of 1mm rain and much the same tomorrow. Enjoy.

Cloud report: Interesting skies this morning. On the low deck (~1km) we have fluffy Cumulus medicoris building to Cumulus congestus. On high (~8km) we have Cirrus streaks tending to tiny pillowed Cirrocumulus. I think a later brief rain shower likely and possibly a repeat midnight light show.
