Does anyone have the correct hand guard they’d be able to sell or help me find one? Or if anything know of ways to modify it so that the hand guard is a little more snug?

So I'm looking to buy an Italian vetterli in 6.5 carcano but it doesn't have a rear sight. Could I take a carcano long rifle rear sight and attach it to the vetterli since they shoot the same cartridge? Yes I know it wouldn't be that

Gonna do a semiautomatic conversion, should I use a rifle, carbine, or Moschetto? Im thinking the long rifle so it can be properly compared to the French RSC 1917 what do yall think? Which one would the Italians have used for conversion at the start of WW1 in 1914?
